Ethical Couponing and more....

After yesterday and discussing this matter with several people, I'm going to have to step onto my soapbox and discuss it publicly...

This is a very serious matter and can help you stay out of trouble and not become hated at every store you frequently go too...

1. If a coupon states a certain size has to be purchased, DO NOT USE IT FOR A SMALLER ITEM!!!!

2. DO NOT MATCH BARCODES-YES THE STORE GETS PAID BUT IT IS NOT ETHICAL AND YOU WILL BE CAUGHT.

3. BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE BLOGS AND FACE BOOK PAGES YOU FOLLOW because not all of them teach the correct way of couponing-between having the wrong coupons matched up with the wrong size items or showing transactions broke down but not telling all the truth-example, saying something is free when you have money out of pocket or calculating rewards wrong. It can be very confusing for newbies and ripened couponers alike...

4. Wiping the shelves, just because you can is wrong...go and special order the item instead if you have enough coupons for a case.

5. Don't get upset when cashiers scrutinize you at the register...realize that their are "idiots" that do scam and because of that, sometimes, we are scrutinized.

6. Copying coupons is FRAUD when there are limits on how many you can use...If you are changing the number of prints this is NOT Fraud but taking a coupon that only allowed two prints and copying those coupons is FRAUD! You can go to jail for coupon fraud and the bad thing is, the internet coupon you  printed with the special code on it, can be tracked back to your IP address...Be smart and don't copy coupons when they have limits on them! This is why many stores have limits to how many IP's can be used per transaction now.

7.NEVER use expired coupons unless your store allows it.

8. Make sure if your coupon reads money off of multiple items that you purchase all the items needed to get the money off...Example- $1 off 3 packs of gum...Make sure you are getting 3 packs and not less than that...

I'm stepping down now but please be aware that coupon fraud is a big deal right now and yes, they can send you to jail for it. How stupid would it be to end up in jail over trying to save a little money! Also, by coupon with ethics, it helps give couponers a better name and stores/cashiers are less like to change policies and scrutinize us when we check out!

  1. So if you change the number in the print box but on the web site it clearly states TWO prints per person is that okay? Just wondering, because I am assuming that is how everyone has gotten 100+ coupons for advil, since it does say 2 prints per person?

  2. When you go to the advil.com, it does not show 2 prints per person until you click print twice. The company already understands that you can print more than two, I for one contacted them. They also realize that when you go to the coupon that the coupon states one thing and the banner above the coupon states another thing. This has been the same since January when the coupon came out. Honestly, with this coupon if they wanted two per household, they would have written it on the coupon like every other manufacturer does or not allowed you to be able to change the number of prints.Just my opinion so no, I don't think it's wrong, I think it's more of a discrepancy on their part just like with the banner posted above the coupon...It would be like saying, O well I shouldn't use this coupon because the banner states that it has to be 40 ct or larger...
